[Saba Sports News] Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has hailed Virat Kohli as the world’s top batsman, highlighting his remarkable comeback after a challenging period in 2020 and 2021. Despite facing criticism and doubts about his career’s continuation, the Delhi-based cricketer proved his mettle by becoming the highest run-scorer at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and subsequently in the ODI World Cup on the subcontinent. In doing so, Kohli achieved 50 ODI centuries, setting a record for the most centuries in cricket history.
Kohli is currently absent from the Indian team for personal reasons and may miss the next three Tests against England. This poses a concern for India, especially after underwhelming batting displays in the first two matches. Despite winning in Visakhapatnam thanks to standout performances, India’s batting lineup has considerable scope for improvement.
Shami also praised Rohit Sharma, labeling him as the most threatening batsman. Known for his explosive batting, Rohit excelled during the ODI World Cup, contributing significantly to the team’s strong starts with a total of 597 runs at an impressive strike rate of 125.94. Shami’s admiration for both players is clear, as he considers Kohli the best batsman but recognizes Rohit as the most dangerous.
Following the ODI World Cup, Rohit’s form saw a decline, with less impactful performances against South Africa and now England in the series’ initial Tests. With India facing critical matches ahead, hopes are high for the captain to lead a turnaround. The break between the second and third Tests offers a crucial period for preparation. In Kohli’s absence, KL Rahul is expected to step in for Rajat Patidar in the playing eleven.
