[Saba Sports News] On his show Saturday, Stephen A. Smith sharply criticized Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans for his weight. Smith, present at the NBA In-Season Tournament semifinal where the Pelicans faced the Los Angeles Lakers, observed Williamson’s poor physical shape during the game, which the Lakers won decisively, 133-89. He commented on Williamson being significantly less fit than Lakers’ LeBron James, both in gameplay and physical training.
Smith remarked, “He looks fat… Zion Williamson, much younger yet 40 pounds heavier than LeBron James, showed a noticeable belly at the free throw line… his belly visibly moved as he breathed.”
Smith also mentioned Williamson’s inability to inspire his team, comparing his appearance to someone who had just left a buffet. In the game, Williamson scored 13 points with 3 assists, while James scored 30 points with 8 assists. Williamson’s fitness has been a recurrent issue, affecting his performance this season, with averages of 22.2 points and 5.6 rebounds – the lowest of his career.
