[Saba Sports News] The Minnesota Timberwolves are making strategic moves to enhance their playoff positioning.
Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed on Wednesday that the Timberwolves are close to completing a trade with the Detroit Pistons for the services of veteran guard Monte Morris. In return, Minnesota will send guard Shake Milton, wing Troy Brown Jr., and a second-round pick to Detroit.
This move is aimed at strengthening Minnesota’s bench as they ambitiously target the top seed in the Western Conference. Currently sitting in third place with a 35-16 record, just a half-game shy of the lead, they have been heavily reliant on big man Naz Reid for bench productivity.
Morris, formerly of the Denver Nuggets, adds valuable scoring ability (averaging 10.4 points over 25.4 minutes per game in his career) and brings postseason experience to the backcourt.
With Morris’ contract set to expire at the season’s end, the trade signals a clear “win-now” approach by the Timberwolves. Additionally, acquiring Morris serves the dual purpose of bolstering their roster while preventing a key asset from joining a rival in the tightly contested Western Conference standings.
