[Saba Sports News] The ease of scoring in today’s NBA is a common topic, and Trae Young believes scoring is more challenging in college or international play than in the NBA.
In a discussion with Taylor Rooks, the Atlanta Hawks standout commented on the league’s high-scoring trends. Young attributed the rise in scoring to the game’s evolution and current defensive strategies, suggesting that reinstating the defensive three-second rule could make scoring more difficult.
He emphasized that the NBA’s spacing and the high caliber of talent make it significantly easier to score compared to college or overseas, where different defensive regulations can apply.
Young highlighted the impact of NBA-specific rules on the game’s offensive dynamics, suggesting that changes like adjusting the defensive three-second rule could alter how easily players can score.
“I feel like with numbers going up, that’s just evolution, it’s going to happen, especially with the way the defense is nowadays,” Young shared. “If you really wanted more defense in basketball put defensive three seconds back in the game. That would change the outlook of offense and how easy it is to score. Young also pointed to the spacing and sheer talent level in the league as reasons why scoring is easier. “There is so much space in the game in the NBA that, of course, it is way easier to score than college or overseas,” Young added.
“Just because there is so much space and so much talent on the floor that you can’t really help each other as much because of the defensive rules. It’s the way the NBA made the rules and that’s what people have to go with.”
