[Saba Sports News] Devdutt Padikkal, the left-handed batsman, experienced an unexpected Test debut for India in Dharamsala against England. His selection journey was filled with uncertainty, and he only received a hint from the team management about his possible participation the night before.
Reflecting on his debut after Day 2, Padikkal admitted the situation wasn’t ideal for mental preparation but nonetheless cherished the moment. He stepped in for the injured Rajat Patidar and relished batting alongside Sarfaraz Khan, with whom he shared a light-hearted and comfortable partnership.
During the match, after initial dominance by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, England’s Ben Stokes and James Anderson fought back. However, Padikkal and Sarfaraz formed a crucial partnership, steering India to a strong position.
Padikkal’s debut was marked by a significant 65-run contribution, helping India to end the day at 473/8, securing a hefty 255-run lead. With Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah set to continue, India looks to extend their dominance on Day Three of this engaging Test.
