[Saba Sports News] South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj visited Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir on Wednesday, March 21, a site revered in Hindu culture as the birthplace of Lord Rama.
In January, Maharaj had expressed his desire to visit the temple but had to miss the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony on January 22 due to his commitments in the SA20 tournament, where he captained Durban Super Giants. He shared that his family had always wanted to go on a pilgrimage to India.
Maharaj shared a photo of himself at the Ayodhya Temple on his official Instagram account, captioning it “Jai Shree Raam. Blessings to everyone.”
A versatile player, Maharaj represents South Africa in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, making his international debut in November 2016. He captained the national side in ODIs for the first time against Sri Lanka in September 2021, also debuting in T20Is in the same series. He made history during the Test series against West Indies in June 2021, claiming a hat-trick and becoming the second South African bowler to achieve this feat.
Maharaj has over 200 wickets across formats, showcasing his bowling prowess. His performance in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup was notable, where he emerged as one of the top bowlers, finishing as South Africa’s third-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 10 games.
