[Saba Sports News] It seems the editors overlooked some details on the new Kobe Bryant statue. Basketball reporter Andre Voigt recently shared photos on social media highlighting several spelling errors on the statue dedicated to Kobe Bryant by the Los Angeles Lakers, located outside the Crypto.com Arena. The statue captures Bryant’s pose from his legendary 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006, and the base includes an engraving of the game’s box score.
Regrettably, this engraving contains a few misspellings: “Jose Calderon” is mistakenly spelled as “Calderson,” “Von Wafer” appears as “Vom Wafer,” and “Aaron Williams” is noted with a “DNP- Coach’s Decicion.”
Although these mistakes might not be immediately noticeable, they stand out upon closer inspection. Given the statue’s significance, commemorating Bryant four years after his passing and nearly eight after his retirement, one would expect flawless attention to detail.
Unveiled on February 8, 2024, symbolically reflecting Bryant’s jersey numbers 8 and 24, the statue’s intriguing backstory is now overshadowed by these errors, which have attracted widespread attention online.
