[Saba Sports News] The Asia Cup 2023 faced numerous rain interruptions in Sri Lanka, where the tournament was co-hosted due to India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan. Rain played a significant role in Sri Lanka, with the India vs. Pakistan match in Kandy ending in no-result due to incessant downpours.
However, the ground staff in Kandy and Colombo played a crucial role in managing the rain-interrupted matches. They swiftly covered the field and employed innovative techniques to dry the pitch, ensuring fans could enjoy watching their favorite players in action. The curators also prepared pitches that offered a balance between bowlers and batsmen.
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah acknowledged the invaluable contributions of these unsung heroes and announced a well-deserved prize of USD 50,000 (INR 41.5 Lakh, 1.6 Cr Sri Lankan Rupee) for the curators and ground staff.
Shah expressed his gratitude on his social media account, calling them the “Unsung Heroes of Cricket” and highlighting their unwavering commitment and hard work. Their efforts ensured that the Asia Cup 2023 became an unforgettable spectacle, setting the stage for thrilling cricket action.
“Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket! 🙌,” Shah tweeted.
This recognition not only honors their crucial role in cricket’s success but also marks a praiseworthy gesture, as their relentless dedication helped make the 2023 Asia Cup a memorable tournament and an ideal preparation for teams and fans ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup starting next month.
