[Saba Sports News] Atlanta Hawks fans recently expressed their stance on trade rumors involving D’Angelo Russell in a unique way. During Tuesday’s game, as Russell, the guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, stepped up for free throws in the first half, the State Farm Arena crowd chanted, “We don’t want you!” This chant was a direct reference to the ongoing trade speculations linking Russell to the Hawks ahead of the February 8 trade deadline.
The Lakers are reportedly interested in Hawks guard Dejounte Murray and have allegedly included Russell, who recently started a two-year, $36 million contract, in their proposed trade package. However, Russell, 28, a former All-Star, may not be an ideal fit for Atlanta.
His ball-dominant style could clash with Trae Young’s role in the team, and his defensive skills are also a concern. The Hawks fans, clearly aware of these factors, voiced their opinions during the game, a scenario that isn’t the first instance of them expressing their views on Russell in such a manner.
