[Saba Sports News] South Africa is currently facing Australia in a comprehensive multi-format series, with Alyssa Healy’s team taking the lead. The Aussies secured the T20I series with a 2-1 victory and dominated the first ODI by achieving a target of 106 with ease, winning by eight wickets with 31 overs to spare.
In the ongoing second ODI at the North Sydney Oval on February 7, Australia opted to bowl after winning the toss. A notable moment occurred during the 24th over of South Africa’s innings when Sune Luus attempted a sweep shot against Ashleigh Gardner, only for the ball to miss the bat and hit her pad. Despite an Australian appeal, umpire Claire Polosak judged it not out, a decision confirmed upon review, indicating Luus was hit outside the off-stump line. However, Polosak momentarily confused everyone by mistakenly raising her finger before quickly correcting to signal not out, prompting laughter from the players.
Luus was later caught by Annabel Sutherland off Gardner’s bowling for 19 runs, bringing South Africa to 117/4 after 25.2 overs. The early part of the innings saw South Africa losing key wickets, including captain Laura Wolvaardt for a duck in the first over, followed by Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosch. Brits’s slow 21 off 41 balls ended with Sutherland’s delivery, while Bosch contributed a brisk 44 off 46 balls, including nine fours and a six, before also falling to Gardner, caught by Sutherland.
