[Saba Sports News] Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla took an unconventional approach to motivate his team during a challenging game against the Washington Wizards.
After the game, which ended in a 133-129 comeback victory for the Celtics, Mazzulla revealed to reporters that he attempted to lighten the mood by telling a few jokes during the third quarter. He admitted that the jokes were too inappropriate to share publicly. Despite the attempt to relax the team, player Jaylen Brown was not amused, citing the team’s losing position at the time as the reason for his lack of laughter.
The Celtics managed to outscore the Wizards 36-16 in the third quarter, although they lost the fourth quarter. It’s uncertain whether Mazzulla’s unique strategy played a role in shifting the game’s momentum or if the turnaround was merely a coincidence.
Mazzulla is known for his unconventional methods, and with the Celtics’ strong 40-12 record, his coaching tactics, however unorthodox, seem to be effective.
