[Saba Sports News] Pakistan, who were knocked out of the Asia Cup 2023 in the must-win match against Sri Lanka, went home with big question marks ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
In the aftermath of the big defeat, the team, which appeared united for the past couple of years, now faces reports of unrest inside their dressing room.
According to BOL News, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi got involved in a heated argument inside the dressing room. After the match against Sri Lanka, as a ritual, Babar delivered a speech reflecting on the team’s performance. Reportedly, he told his teammates that they were not playing responsibly.
While Babar was addressing the team with his speech, Shaheen interrupted his skilled and said that he should at least appreciate those who bowled and batted well, such as Zaman Khan and Abdullah Shafique.
Things escalated, and Babar did not appreciate the interruption caused by fast-bowler. In response to Shaheen, he said, “I know who’s performing well and who’s not.”
Seeing this, Pakistan wicket-keeper and senior player Mohammad Rizwan had to step in between Babar and Shaheen and stop the argument.
In the match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan posted a total of 252 runs with the loss of seven wickets in 42 overs but failed to defend it, and had to take an exit from the ongoing Asia Cup. Sri Lanka sealed the finale spot on the last ball of their innings.
