[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony, the retired 10-time All-Star, expressed dissatisfaction with his former team, the Denver Nuggets, on his podcast “7 PM in Brooklyn” with The Kid Mero. His grievance revolves around the Nuggets assigning his old jersey number (No. 15) to Nikola Jokic. Anthony labeled this decision as “petty,” implying the team aimed to overshadow his legacy. He suggested that the Nuggets might have given Jokic number 15 in an attempt to diminish Anthony’s contributions.
Anthony’s perspective might appear self-centered to some. Jokic, initially a second-round draft pick, received the number 15 as a rookie, a time when his future impact was uncertain. Moreover, Anthony’s achievements in Denver, though significant, were not as prominent as in his later years with the New York Knicks, where he earned most of his NBA All-Star appearances and his scoring title.
With Anthony’s retirement last summer, there’s been speculation about which No. 15 jersey the Nuggets would retire. Anthony’s comments suggest he would prefer not to have his jersey retired if it means sharing the honor with Jokic.
