[Saba Sports News] On Friday, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks had a remarkable game, scoring 73 points, and his teammate Grant Williams humorously managed to capture a bit of the limelight. Doncic’s performance against the Atlanta Hawks, resulting in a 148-143 victory at State Farm Arena, made him the 10th NBA player to score 70 or more points in a game. He achieved this feat with an impressive 25 of 33 field goals, including 8 three-pointers and 15 of 16 free throws.
Williams took to social media to celebrate Doncic’s achievement. He posted a photo of himself with Doncic after the game, along with a witty caption: “82 points right here. Congrats brother, that was special to witness it.” The caption humorously referenced their combined scoring, with Williams contributing 9 points to the total.
This game coincided with the death anniversary of Kobe Bryant, and for a time, it seemed Doncic might surpass Bryant’s 81-point record. However, he fell short by 9 points, coincidentally the same number of points scored by Williams.
Williams wasn’t the only player playfully overshadowed by Doncic’s historic performance. Devin Booker, who scored 62 points on the same day, also became the subject of jokes and comparisons in the wake of Doncic’s 73-point game.
