[Saba Sports News] Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray was at the center of numerous trade speculations until the 2024 NBA trade deadline passed without any moves from the Hawks. Despite the deadline’s passing, the rumor mill in Atlanta continues to churn, particularly around All-Star point guard Trae Young’s future with the team.
Leading up to the deadline, “several front offices” reportedly engaged in discussions with the Hawks, leaving with the impression from a post-deadline report by Yahoo’s Jake Fischer that Trae Young might be on the trading block come summer.
Fischer suggested that while this belief among rival executives could be hopeful thinking, the notion isn’t far-fetched given the Hawks’ current trajectory. Now in Young’s sixth season, the team has struggled to replicate its 2021 Eastern Conference Finals run, showing mediocre performance at best. With a 22-29 record as of Thursday, the Hawks seem poised for another Play-In Tournament appearance, marking their third in a row.
Despite these team struggles, Young has maintained impressive individual stats, averaging 27.1 points and 10.9 assists over 46 games this season. However, the team’s poor performance has overshadowed his achievements, as highlighted by his initial All-Star snub this year, though he was later named as an injury replacement.
Young is currently in the second year of a five-year, $215 million max extension signed in 2021, adding complexity to any potential trade discussions.
