[Saba Sports News] Former England captain Michael Vaughan tagged India as one of the “most underachieving sports teams in the world”.
Vaughan’s comments came in the wake of India’s shambolic innings defeat versus South Africa in the first Test of the ongoing series.
Moreover, India have not won an ICC trophy since 2013. In this period, they have lost in four T20 World Cups, three ODI World Cups and two World Test Championship finals. Lately, the Men in Blue faced a shocking loss at the hands of Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
“They haven’t won much in recent times. I think India is one of the most underachieving sports teams in the world. They don’t win anything, when was the last time they won something? They won here (Australia) twice, which was magnificent. But the last few World Cups, been nowhere. T20 World Cup, nowhere,” Vaughan said as quoted
“Then you go to South Africa, a team which is useful in Test matches, and produce a performance like this. Look, they’re a good team, they’ve got plenty of talent but I just think with all the talent and resources they have, I just don’t think they win anything,” he added.
India emerged victorious in a Test series in Australia twice recently and being the number one side in the red-ball format, South Africa was dubbed as their final frontier. India have never won a Test series in South Africa and as they have lost the first Test of the two-match series, they will no longer be able to break this unwanted streak this time as well.
The second Test match will begin on January 3 in Cape Town.
