[Saba Sports News] Indian badminton star Pusarla
Venkata Sindhu has reportedly applied for ranking protection due to injuries
she sustained in December of the previous year. As a result, she will not be
able to return to competition until at least February of the current year. At
the time of applying for ranking protection, Sindhu held the 10th position in
the world rankings and currently occupies the 10th spot in the Paris Olympics
points standings. Her objective remains to secure a medal in the women’s event,
following her bronze medal win in women’s singles at the previous Tokyo
Olympics. Sindhu is considered a legendary figure in Indian badminton, being
the first Indian to win a badminton world championship. She gained prominence
at a young age, representing the national team in the Uber Cup and becoming the
team’s youngest member. In the same year, she also achieved victory in the
National Youth Championship U19 Girls without dropping a single game.
Domestically, Sindhu is regarded as the successor to Indian badminton legend
Saina Nehwal.
