[Saba Sports News] In an unexpected development, the Lucknow Super Giants have parted ways with assistant coach Vijay Dahiya ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Dahiya, a former Indian wicketkeeper, played a crucial role in the support staff headed by Andy Flower since the team’s establishment in 2022.
This change follows LSG’s decision to appoint ex-Australian opener Justin Langer as their new head coach, replacing Andy Flower, whose contract was not renewed post-IPL 2023. Dahiya took to social media to extend his best wishes to his former team for the upcoming season. He expressed his gratitude for the experience gained over the past two years with LSG in his farewell message on Instagram.
The Lucknow Super Giants had an impressive introduction in the IPL, reaching the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023. Dahiya’s departure comes after the team’s earlier separation from Gautam Gambhir, with whom he had a close professional relationship. Gambhir, a World Cup-winning opener, returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders in a new capacity earlier in the year.
Dahiya brings extensive coaching experience, having played two Tests and 19 ODIs for India between 2000 and 2001. Prior to his time with LSG, he coached the Uttar Pradesh team and was associated with Kolkata Knight Riders as an assistant coach and talent scout for Delhi Capitals.
Looking ahead to IPL 2024, the Lucknow Super Giants have revamped their coaching staff. They’ve brought in former Indian spinner Sridharan Sriram as an assistant coach. Under Justin Langer’s guidance, the team aims to build on their past achievements and make a significant impact in the upcoming season. It remains to be seen how the team, led by star batter KL Rahul, performs in the IPL with this new coaching lineup.
