[Saba Sports News] James Harden’s influence on the Los Angeles Clippers is significant, extending beyond his playing skills. This was highlighted by center Ivica Zubac on the “Podcast P” with Paul George, where he shared insights into what he humorously calls the “James Harden training camp.” This initiative focuses on improving the big men and young players’ skills, particularly in pick-and-roll situations.
Zubac recalls Harden’s first shootaround with the team, where he was asked to stay longer to work on pick-and-roll plays. Initially, Zubac thought it was a temporary measure for Harden to understand his teammates’ preferences. However, it turned into a consistent practice, with players like Daniel Theis, Mason Plumlee, Kobe Brown, Brandon Boston, and Bones Hyland also joining in.
Now, after every practice and shootaround, they spend at least 20 minutes working on pick-and-roll plays from various positions on the court. This routine has become a staple for the Clippers, fostering better team chemistry and skill enhancement.
Currently, the Clippers are thriving, holding the 4th spot in the Western Conference with a 25-13 record. They’ve had an impressive 16-4 run in the last 20 games, matching the Boston Celtics for the best record in that period.
Harden’s role as the primary ball handler and playmaker has been pivotal in the Clippers’ success. His stats, including an average of 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, along with a 45.6% shooting percentage and 41.9% accuracy from three-point range, highlight his crucial contribution. The Clippers’ dedication to continuous improvement, led by Harden, positions them as a strong contender in the NBA.
