[Saba Sports News] At its annual general meeting, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) unanimously agreed to extend Jay Shah’s term as President for an additional year. This proposal, put forward for the second time by Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, received widespread support from all ACC members.
Since taking charge in January 2021, Shah has become the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as ACC President and has played a key role in advancing cricket throughout Asia. His leadership saw the successful organization of the Asia Cup in both T20 and ODI formats in 2022 and 2023, underlining Asia’s capability in hosting major cricket tournaments.
Silva praised Shah for his significant contribution to cricket’s growth in Asia, citing his efforts in promoting the sport and developing new talents in cricketing nations like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. According to a quote from Silva by News 18, Shah has been influential in enhancing cricket’s reach across the Asian region.
Shah’s tenure has been marked by not only successful major events but also initiatives to expand cricket in emerging countries like Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, and Nepal. Silva highlighted Shah’s ability to boost finances and support grassroots development, especially for associate members.
