[Saba Sports News] On January 2, young cricketer Tilak Varma shared his enthusiasm for the new year with a video of himself diligently working out in the gym, aligning with his 2024 resolution to focus on fitness. This preparation comes ahead of India’s upcoming cricket series against Afghanistan, beginning January 11.
Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel, Tilak’s teammates, couldn’t resist a bit of light-hearted banter. Suryakumar, who recently captained India in the T20I series against Australia, humorously questioned the genuineness of Tilak’s caption. Axar joined in, playfully alleging that the video was not as recent as claimed, having been recorded on December 30.
Tilak’s Instagram post, captioned “Sticking to my new year’s resolution. No better way to start 2024,” attracted these amusing comments from his teammates. Suryakumar quipped, “Kaun batata hai teko ye sab nakli captions (Who gives you these fake captions),” while Axar teased, “Caption k sath sath video b nakli hai ye training to usne 30 dec ko ki thi (Apart from the caption, the video is also fake as he had recorded it on December 30).”
Following a successful stint in the Indian Premier League, where he scored 343 runs in 11 matches, Tilak made his debut in ODI and T20I cricket for India in 2023. While he has shown promise in the T20 format, his ODI performance requires improvement. With the T20 World Cup approaching, Tilak needs to enhance his game to secure a spot in the competitive middle order.
The series against Afghanistan and the forthcoming IPL season are crucial for Tilak to demonstrate his capabilities and earn a place in the squad. The team management has shown faith in him, particularly valuing his potential as a sixth bowling option.
