[Saba Sports News] The T20 World Cup 2024 will feature a highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match on June 9 at a 34,000-seat pop-up stadium near New York, as reported by Cricbuzz and confirmed by the ICC. This stadium, located in Eisenhower Park about 30 miles east of New York, is part of the event’s schedule announced by the ICC. The tournament, starting on June 1, will be held across six venues in the West Indies and three in the USA.
The final will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, which will also host a match between England and Australia on June 8. The New York venue will also host India’s Group A matches against Ireland and the USA. Notably, half of the tournament’s 20 teams will play their opening matches in the USA.
The USA, co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies, will open the event against Canada at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas. The West Indies begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea at the Guyana National Stadium.
The 20 teams are divided into four groups:
Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA
Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea
Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal
The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight, held in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The semi-finals are scheduled for June 26 and 27 in Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed excitement about bringing the tournament to the USA, emphasizing the significance of hosting an ICC event in the world’s largest sports market. The West Indies, with their rich cricket history, are also expected to add vibrancy to the event, particularly with the final in Barbados.
Vijay Srinivasan, co-founder of Major League Cricket, highlighted the historical significance of the USA-Canada match at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, marking the beginning of an iconic international cricket rivalry.
