[Saba Sports News] Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed aims to return to competitive cricket via the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country’s main franchise-based T20 tournament starting January 19. Taskin experienced a shoulder injury during the World Cup in India, sidelining him for several matches.
Post-World Cup, Taskin underwent rehabilitation to regain full fitness, causing him to miss the home Test series against New Zealand and the subsequent white-ball tour. He expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “By the grace of Allah, I am better than before. I had a problem in my shoulder but now I am better and I am looking to start with the BPL and hoping to start the new year well.”
Taskin, who has been picked by Durdanto Dhaka, has been preparing for his comeback, recently completing his fifth bowling session with a full run-up. He hopes to return to action in the BPL if all goes as planned.
Taskin also shared his delight in seeing fellow pacers perform well in New Zealand, highlighting Shoriful Islam’s Player of the Series award in the T20Is and the significant role of pacers in Bangladesh’s maiden ODI win there. He expressed a sense of collective pride, despite missing these victories due to his injury.
On the topic of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Taskin conveyed disappointment for missing out, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not grant him the No Objection Certificate (NOC). The IPL coincides with Bangladesh’s home series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and despite efforts, Taskin couldn’t secure permission to miss the Zimbabwe series for the IPL.
Taskin, who missed previous IPL opportunities, including a potential signing with Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, expressed his eagerness to participate in various franchise leagues. He remains hopeful for future opportunities, noting discussions with the board about considering his participation in different leagues. Despite his disappointments, Taskin maintains optimism for future chances in franchise cricket.
