[Saba Sports News] Victor Wembanyama’s debut season will conclude without two key teammates, as the San Antonio Spurs disclosed that starters Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan are sidelined for the rest of the season. Vassell is contending with a stress reaction in his foot, while Sochan has recently had ankle surgery.
Both Vassell, aged 23, and Sochan, aged 20, have been among the Spurs’ most consistent performers this year. Vassell took the court as a wing in 62 of his 68 appearances, contributing an average of 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. Sochan, operating as a point forward, started in 73 of his 74 games, achieving 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
The decision to end the season early for these young players aligns with expectations, given the Spurs’ current standing with a record of 18-57, placing them at the bottom of the Western Conference with just seven games remaining. This period has allowed the Spurs to assess how Vassell and Sochan complement Wembanyama, their standout talent, and shape the team’s future prospects.
